BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
Dr. Liang Cheng is Professor of Pathology and Surgery/Urology (Research Scholar Track), Vice Chair for Translational Research, Director of Anatomic Pathology, and Director of Molecular Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School | Brown University Health. He also serves as Associate Director at the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. He is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP), as well as Molecular Genetic Pathology. Dr. Cheng has authored over 1,300 peer-reviewed SCI articles published in high-impact journals, including British Medical Journal (BMJ) (IF 107), Nature Reviews Disease Primers (IF 81), Nature Biotechnology (IF 68), Cancer Cell (IF 50), Annals of Oncology (IF 56), Journal of Clinical Oncology (IF 50), JAMA Oncology (IF 32), Molecular Cancer (IF 41), Cell Metabolism (IF 31), Gut (IF 31), Science Immunology (IF 30), and others. He is the author of more than 150 book chapters and 22 textbooks, including Urologic Surgical Pathology, Tumors of the Kidney, Bladder, and Related Urinary Structures (AFIP Fascicle, 5th Series), Molecular Genetic Pathology, Molecular Surgical Pathology, Essentials of Anatomic Pathology, Bladder Pathology, among others. He has served as principal or co-investigator on more than 40 grants funded by the NIH, NCI, ACS, and DOD. His scientific and academic achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Arthur Purdy Stout Annual Award from the Society of Surgical Pathologists for outstanding contributions to surgical pathology, the Koss Medal for Advancement of Urological Pathology, the highest award bestowed by the International Society of Urological Pathology for lifetime achievement in Urological Pathology, the Stowell-Orbison Award from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), and the W. Dwayne Lawrence Award for Excellence in Diagnostic Surgical Pathology. Dr. Cheng serves as President of the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) and as an Expert Member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours (“Blue Books”) Editorial Board. He also serves as Chair of the Biomarkers Committee of the Worldwide Innovative Network (WIN) Consortium and as Vice Chair of its Scientific Advisory Board. His research focuses on translational studies of genitourinary malignancies and molecular characterization of solid tumors.
