Dr. Sobral was educated in Brazil and the United States. Her teaching interests include: 1. intersection of the arts and its applications to second language acquisition, particular emphasis on the performing arts; 2. Brazilian literature of the 20th century, special emphasis on (im)migration literature; 3. contemporary Brazilian film, particularly the last two decades of Brazilian cinema and its pedagogical applications; 4. comparative literature, special emphasis on contemporary texts of immigration and exile. Dr. Sobral is undergraduate concentration advisor in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, member of the Advisory Board of the Writing Fellows Program, and an active member of the Center for Language Studies. Dr. Sobral also leads workshops in Brazil several times a year using the ArtsLit approach for second language acquisition.
