Dr. Li Yue works in the laboratory of Dr. Owens in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Yue's research career has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal injury and repair and translating these discoveries into therapeutic strategies that improve tissue regeneration and functional recovery. My scientific training spans pharmacology, inflammation biology, cartilage biology, peripheral nerve injury, and orthopedic research, providing me with broad expertise in experimental pharmacology, molecular biology, animal models, and translational medicine.

During my PhD training at the University of Sherbrooke, I investigated prostaglandin signaling in osteoclast biology and bone remodeling, identifying novel mechanisms by which prostaglandin D2 induces osteoclast apoptosis through CRTH2 receptor-mediated activation of ERK, Akt, and intrinsic apoptotic pathways. These studies established my foundation in cell signaling and skeletal biology and resulted in multiple first-author publications in Bone.
As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Rochester and subsequently at Brown University, my research expanded into orthopedic trauma, cartilage preservation, peripheral nerve injury, and regenerative medicine. I demonstrated that 4-aminopyridine improves functional recovery following peripheral nerve injury and showed that doxycycline preserves chondrocyte viability and extracellular matrix integrity in osteochondral grafts. More recently, my work has focused on biological mechanisms regulating cartilage degeneration, including the role of relaxin signaling in ligament and cartilage homeostasis and novel approaches for cartilage repair. These studies have produced numerous first-author publications and presentations at the Orthopaedic Research Society annual meetings.
In addition to research, I have actively mentored undergraduate, graduate, and medical students at Brown University, served as a reviewer for numerous international journals, and participated in multidisciplinary collaborative research programs. These experiences have strengthened my ability to lead collaborative translational research and mentor future investigators.
My long-term goal is to develop mechanism-based therapeutic strategies that enhance musculoskeletal tissue repair and improve clinical outcomes following orthopedic injury. My background in pharmacology, molecular biology, and translational orthopedics uniquely positions me to pursue innovative approaches to cartilage regeneration and musculoskeletal disease.
