Overview

Kaley (Kaleen) Hayes, PharmD, PhD is a pharmacoepidemiologist whose research mission is to optimize the use of medications for chronic conditions in older adults using rigorous real-world evidence. She is also an Investigator with the Providence VA Medical Center who evaluates programs for aging Veterans.

Dr. Hayes is the Associate Director of Pharmacoepidemiology in the Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research, where she leads the Pharmacoepidemiology and Regulatory Evidence Lab, a collective of faculty, trainees, and staff working in pharmacoepidemiology, drug policy, and medication-related health services research. 

In her own lab, Dr. Hayes conducts research using advanced pharmacoepidemiologic designs and causal inference methods to study outcomes among older patients with osteoporosis, dementia, cardiovascular conditions, and other chronic diseases. Her work also examines the impacts of policy changes on medication and health services use. 

Her research has been supported by multiple project grants from the National Institute on Aging and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and has been awarded over 8M USD in research funding as Principal Investigator.

Dr. Hayes received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Toronto.
