Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences

Overview

Dr. von Ash is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity at the Brown University School of Public Health.

Dr. von Ash originally joined Brown as a Presidential Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in 2018 after obtaining an ScD in Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Health Nutrition from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. She also has a BA from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MPH from the Yale School of Public Health.

Her research focuses on health promotion in families, especially mothers and young children from high-risk backgrounds, with an emphasis on sleep and physical activity promotion. The goal of her research program, which includes both epidemiological and intervention studies, is to reduce obesity and cancer related health disparities.
