Overview

From 1986 to 2011, Dr. Carey was the Founding Director of Center for Health and Behavior at Syracuse University. He was also one of two Dean's Professors of the Sciences at the school.

From 2011 to 2020, Dr. Carey served as the Director of the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at the Miriam Hospital.

Dr. Carey's research has resulted in more than 400 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals as well as 30 book chapters and 2 books. Dr. Carey has been elected to Fellow status in the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Psychological Science, and the Society for Behavioral Medicine.

He served on Board of Directors of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and the Division of Health Psychology of the APA. Dr. Carey has reviewed for the NIH, CDC, and other granting agencies; he has served as Associate Editor for several journals, and has reviewed for more than 80 professional journals.
